David Littmann, M.D. (July 28, 1906 – January 1, 1981) was a Harvard Medical School professor and researcher who was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts (to Ukrainian immigrants from Novogrod Wolyn aka Zwill Ukraine (formally the Russian Empire), Issac Litman and Sadie Zewat Litman). 1st Littmann is well-known in the medical sector for the patented Littmann Stethoscope, which is renowned for its auscultation acoustic performance.

Dr. David Littmann formed Cardiosonics, Inc. with Gus Machlup to sell his stethoscopes. The stethoscope line at the time consisted of two primary models: a doctor’s stethoscope and a nurse’s stethoscope.Dr. Tarek Loubani and a team of medical and technology experts used the patent-expired Littman Cardiology 3 stethoscope as the basis for a 3D-printed stethoscope created as part of the open source Glia project.
